Large-Scale Triaxial Testing

Triaxial testing at Kiso-Jiban covers a comprehensive range of specimen diameters, from the standard 38 mm up to a large-scale 300 mm. We particularly highlight our large-scale triaxial testing systems, which allow us to perform both compression tests and cyclic tests on materials with large particle sizes, such as gravel and mineral ores, that cannot be evaluated using standard-sized equipment.

By directly measuring the shear strength and liquefaction characteristics of these coarse-grained materials, our tests provide a highly reliable technical basis. This data is widely utilized for the stability analysis of major geotechnical projects involving gravelly soils, as well as for specialized applications, such as evaluating the liquefaction risks of large-particle mineral cargoes during maritime transit.

Triaxial Permeability Test

The triaxial permeability test measures the hydraulic conductivity of soil specimens under a confining pressure that closely replicates actual ground conditions. Kiso-Jiban utilizes a testing system that faithfully reproduces underground environments in the laboratory, enabling the delivery of highly accurate data. We have a wealth of experience conducting numerous triaxial permeability tests, ranging from improved ground such as cutoff walls to low-permeability clay.


 

Direct Simple Shear (DSS) and Cyclic Direct Simple Shear (CDSS)

Monotonic Direct Simple Shear (DSS) and Cyclic Direct Simple Shear (CDSS) tests are used to measure undrained shear strength under K0 consolidated conditions, as well as liquefaction and stiffness degradation (softening) characteristics caused by cyclic loading.

The dynamic and static soil parameters obtained from these tests serve as a highly reliable design basis for the cumulative deformation and bearing capacity analysis of offshore wind power facilities continuously subjected to complex cyclic loads from waves. They are also crucial for large-scale slope stability analysis, such as for mine tailings dams.
