Development of Exxon Mobil Refinery



In the 1970s before the merger of the companies of ESSO and Mobil, Kiso-Jiban Consultants Co. Ltd. has been involved in the various refinery expansions in Pulau Ayer Chawan. In the 1990s, after the reclamation of Pulau Pesek, Pulau Ayer Chawan and other islands as a whole as Jurong Island, Kiso-Jiban Consultants Co. Ltd. had been involved in several Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering Studies for various Specialist Design & Build Contractors for the expansion and added affiliated facilities of ExxonMobil Refinery Complex.

The whole work also involved Land and Marine investigation, Topographical Survey, Geotechnical Instrumentation & Monitoring and Foundation Engineering Design.

The complex subsoil conditions in the Exxon Mobil Refinery consists the existing island original soils, reclamation sand and imported fills. With different subsoil materials, the foundation design included shallow foundations, R.C. Driven Piles, Micro-Piles, Bored Piles and Soil Improvement Works. The temporary works included the sheet piles retaining system. Kiso-Jiban Consultants Co. Ltd. also involved in the earthwork quality control tests for the road works and tank pad construction.
