Main Members of Kiso-Jiban, Daiwa and Koa Establish the Society for Study of Submarine Geological Risks

Press Release

Main members of Kiso-Jiban Consultants Co., Ltd., Daiwa Exploration and Consulting Co., Ltd. and Koa Kaihatsu Co., Ltd. established the Society for Study of Submarine Geological Risks (SSSGR) in an inaugural general meeting held on 16th December 2020, and appointed Dr. Kiichiro Kawamura, Associate Professor of Yamaguchi University, as a president of the society.
The study includes a methodology for assessment of geological risks in offshore projects for publication.
While the offshore wind farm projects are rapidly expanding in Japan, the geological risk management is vital in the offshore wind farm projects.
There is the high potential for offshore geohazards, such as earthquakes, volcanic activities and submarine landslides in Japan. However, the assessment of the geological risks for offshore projects is limited.
Those risks are likely to jeopardize offshore wind farm projects from planning to construction once the risk appears.
The society plans to develop a methodology for assessment of geological risks predicted in Japanese waters, and the development will be published in a handbook to share the information among the offshore industry for the risk management.
